A Utah congressman has proposed the first federal legislation aimed at restricting artificial intelligence in toys marketed to young children. The measure would prohibit the manufacture and sale of such products in the United States. It comes amid growing concerns over safety, privacy and developmental impacts.
On April 20 Congressman Blake Moore introduced the AI Children’s Toy Safety Act. The bill calls for a ban on children’s toys that incorporate AI chatbots, citing risks ranging from inappropriate content to data exposure. It follows state-level efforts in places such as California and Maryland to impose moratoriums or require prelaunch safety checks.
