The Ministry of Migration is preparing arguments to defend before the Supreme Court that Royal Decree 316/2026 is compatible with Community law. Ministry sources stress that the residence and work permit is valid exclusively in Spanish territory.
The Valencian Generalitat submitted arguments on Tuesday requesting the precautionary suspension of the process. The Generalitat's Legal Service warns that, if not suspended, the effects of the regularization could become effective immediately.
Pedro Sánchez announced an integration plan endowed with 500 million euros per year. The Prime Minister stated that the regularization is a success in migration management and a key step to bring hundreds of thousands of people out of invisibility.
The European Commission reiterated that the measure falls under the competence of the Member States and declined to comment on the Supreme Court's orders. A spokesperson indicated that the matter remains in the Spanish courts.
