Amazon MGM Studios nystart av Masters of the Universe väntas spela in 30 miljoner dollar i USA och 50 miljoner dollar globalt. Filmen har premiär efter nästan 18 års utveckling hos Escape Artists och Mattel Studios.

Producenterna Robbie Brenner, Todd Black och Jason Blumenthal beskriver den långa resa som tog sin början när Mattel lät rättigheterna löpa ut hos Warner Bros. för nästan två decennier sedan. Black och Blumenthal säkrade projektet för Sony inom 24 timmar efter ett samtal från agenten Spencer Baumgarten. Manuset flyttades senare till Amazon MGM Studios, där Courtenay Valenti godkände det under sin första vecka på posten. Travis Knight valdes till regissör efter att bröderna Nee tidigare varit knutna till projektet. Tom Rothman föreslog att placera He-Man på jorden som en fisk ur vattnet-berättelse.
