Pandji Pragiwaksono to undergo Toraja customary trial on February 10

Comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono is scheduled to attend a customary trial in Tanah Toraja, South Sulawesi, on February 10, 2026, addressing a long-standing controversy over his comedy material deemed offensive to the Toraja indigenous community. The process is organized by the Indigenous Peoples' Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) Toraja following discussions with Pandji. The trial aims to restore relationships and dignity, rather than to punish.

The controversy surrounding comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono has entered a new phase with the scheduling of a Toraja customary trial on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in Tanah Toraja, South Sulawesi. The issue stems from Pandji's stand-up comedy material in the Mesakke Bangsaku event, which was seen as belittling the dignity of the Toraja indigenous community.

Earlier, on Monday, February 2, 2026, Pandji underwent examination by investigators from the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) in South Jakarta as a reported witness. He answered dozens of questions related to his contested comedy material over alleged insults to the Toraja tribe.

This customary trial is being held by AMAN Toraja in response to the matter. AMAN General Secretary Rukka Sombolinggi stated that the process resulted from communication with Pandji. It was originally planned for December 2025 but was delayed due to obstacles.

"Pandji Pragiwaksono is scheduled to attend and participate in the customary trial process in Toraja on February 10, 2026," Rukka told reporters on Monday, February 9, 2026.

Prior to the agreement, AMAN Toraja facilitated a consolidation involving at least 32 adat regions. The customary leaders formulated a joint stance, emphasizing resolution through customary law focused on restoration rather than mere punishment. The process, named Ma' Buak Burun Mangkaloi Oto', will take place in Banua Puan, specifically at Tongkonan Layuk Kaero, as a symbol of unity.

"This customary trial is not motivated by punishment but is part of the customary legal mechanism to restore relationships, dignity, and social balance within the Toraja indigenous community," Rukka added.

This step highlights the indigenous community's efforts to address the issue through traditional mechanisms, preserving cultural values amid modern controversies.
