Disorder broke out in Paris on Saturday evening after Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League final win over Arsenal. More than 890 arrests were recorded, a 45 percent increase from 2025.
The périphérique was invaded, shops were looted and violence broke out in several districts of the capital. One death and one serious injury were reported in a two-wheeler accident, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.
Consultant Robert Pires, a former Arsenal player, reacted on Monday on the France 5 show « C à vous ». « We need to be much firmer », he said, comparing French policing with the approach taken in England, where troublemakers are banned from stadiums.
Thirteen adults appeared in immediate hearings on Monday. Several of them, aged 19 to 25, had no prior criminal record. Police officers, who faced targeted attacks, expressed frustration over repeated incidents at major sporting events.
