A campaign truck linked to the Democracy for Citizens Party was vandalised and set on fire in Gilgil on July 11. The attack occurred at Pembroke Bridge ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election scheduled for July 16. Party officials alleged the driver was abducted during the incident.
Videos shared online showed supporters on the vehicle being pelted with stones before smoke began rising from the truck. Occupants were heard calling for help and asking passing motorists for a fire extinguisher.
Rose Gakuo, a communications official in the office of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, stated that armed individuals carried out the attack. She noted that the driver had been abducted and that the truck was set on fire.
The incident follows warnings from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission that the by-election could be postponed due to violence and breaches of the electoral code. Neither the National Police Service nor Gachagua had commented on the matter at the time of publication.
