Farmers in Gambella Region improve benefits from fruit and vegetable development

Farmers in the Gambella Region are improving their economic benefits and food security by focusing on vegetable and fruit cultivation, according to the Regional Agriculture Bureau.

Ato Andrew Tut, head of the Regional Agriculture and Natural Resources Development Bureau, said efforts are underway to expand vegetable and fruit development in various areas to improve farmers' benefits. Farmers are focusing on avocado, banana, papaya and orange cultivation to supply marketable products and grow their family incomes. This is also improving access to balanced nutrition in the area and contributing to food security goals. To sustain the results, various technologies are being used to distribute high-yield and quality avocado seedlings. In coordination with the Green Legacy Development, preparations are being made this rainy season to plant more than 8 million fruit and multi-purpose seedlings including avocado.
