Habagat to bring rains in northern Luzon

The southwest monsoon is forecast to cause rainy conditions over parts of northern Luzon on Saturday, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 5 a.m. forecast that the habagat would bring isolated thunderstorms to Ilocos Region, Apayao, Abra, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Zambales.

Localized thunderstorms are expected to continue across the rest of the country, including Metro Manila.

PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres stated that widespread and prolonged rains are not anticipated at this time, though the monsoon may bring more rain in coming days.

No low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones are currently being monitored.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned that the southwest monsoon will bring rains to several provinces on Thursday.

The southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to bring scattered rains over parts of western Luzon while generally fair weather prevails across most of the country, PAGASA said Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said generally fair weather with localized rain showers will prevail over much of the country through the weekend.

The southwest monsoon has weakened and now affects only the western section of Northern Luzon, according to PAGASA. A low-pressure area near Hong Kong is expected to keep it from strengthening.

The trough of Severe Tropical Storm Francisco and the southwest monsoon will bring rains to the southern portion of the country on Sunday, the state weather bureau said.

A low-pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is expected to enter on Wednesday and could develop into tropical storm Kiyapo, bringing heavy rains and winds to northern Luzon by the weekend.

The low pressure area formerly known as Tropical Cyclone Caloy is forecast to weaken and dissipate over the Philippine Sea by Friday or Saturday without affecting the country.
