Hanwha to invest 55 trillion won in aerospace and AI by 2040

Hanwha Group announced plans to invest 55 trillion won in the aerospace and artificial intelligence sectors by 2040. The investment targets development of launch vehicles, satellites and AI data centers.

Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan outlined the roadmap at a July 3 briefing in Jinju. The plan forms part of the government’s project to attract large-scale investment in AI and high-tech industries.

Hanwha Aerospace will allocate about 23 trillion won to space launch vehicles, assembly facilities and testing infrastructure. Another 20 trillion won will go toward ultra-low Earth orbit SAR satellites, a space AI data center and a low Earth orbit satellite communications network.

Hanwha Systems plans to launch and operate 64 SAR satellites by 2031. A defense AI data center in Changwon is scheduled to begin operations this year at 45 megawatts and expand to 135 megawatts by 2032.
