Knbs announces nationwide census for tvet institutions in kenya

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics has announced a nationwide census of all technical and vocational education and training institutions starting May 20.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics announced the census on May 17. It will collect data on the number of institutions, student enrolment, staffing levels, and infrastructure across the country.

KNBS Director General Macdonald Obudho spoke in Nakuru on May 16. He said the findings will help identify gaps and align training with job market needs.

“It will tell us what has worked and what has not worked,” Obudho stated. The exercise occurs as institutions implement the Competency-Based Education and Training curriculum.

TVET Nakuru Regional Director Rosemary Kimani said the data will guide resource allocation for practical skills training. The census comes amid a crackdown on rogue colleges issuing fake accreditations.

Justice Musyoka certified the matter urgent and granted leave for judicial review on April 22. KIM programs continue running as usual pending the full hearing.
