Rappi processes 230,000 last-minute orders for Mother's Day

Delivery platform Rappi recorded a high volume of last-minute orders in Colombia for Mother's Day. Approximately 230,000 food orders and more than 25,000 flower bouquets were processed. The average spending ticket reached 120,000 pesos.

Data reported by Rappi shows that impulse purchases drove activity on the platform. Orders ranged from an average of 120,000 pesos to as much as 2 million pesos in exceptional cases.

More than 630 florists participated actively, selling around 50,000 arrangements per month with increases of up to 130 percent on special dates. Other segments such as desserts, breakfasts and bakery also showed notable growth.

Compared to the previous year, the platform experienced an increase of up to 70 percent in orders during Mother's Day Sunday in 2025. This year florists contributed to an overall 45 percent growth in orders.

A Rappi study indicates that in-person food purchases generate hidden costs of up to 15,000 pesos per trip and a loss of between three and 4.5 hours per month compared to apps.

The arrival of the mid-year service bonus boosts consumption but Colombians are choosing to finance purchases to preserve liquidity. Superfinanciera data shows only 35.5% access formal credit even though nine out of ten adults hold financial products.

A study from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María uncovered 'digital food deserts' in Santiago's Metropolitan Region, where apps like Pedidos Ya, Uber Eats, and Rappi do not operate in certain neighborhoods. These exclusions link more to socioeconomic levels than crime rates. Researcher Nicolás Valenzuela points to patterns of algorithmic discrimination.
