IF Metall criticizes Tesla's Megapack Supercharger operation amid Sweden labor dispute

Tesla's Megapack-powered Supercharger station in Arlandastad, near Stockholm's Arlanda Airport—which opened in late 2025 despite union blockades—continues to operate, further frustrating IF Metall. The union accuses Tesla of strikebreaking via loopholes and vows to intensify measures, as previously reported to regulators.

The Arlandastad Supercharger features eight stalls powered by an on-site Megapack battery system, bypassing traditional grid connections. This setup allowed operations amid sympathy strikes by Sweden's electricians' union, part of a two-year labor conflict with Tesla Sweden.

As covered earlier, IF Metall reported the site's electricity supply—via cables from an undisclosed local company—to Sweden’s Energy Market Inspectorate, questioning regulatory compliance. The station remains active, aggravating the union.

IF Metall press manager Jesper Pettersson told CarUp: “We do not know the details around this. But it is further proof of how Tesla systematically finds loopholes to circumvent the sympathy measures through active strikebreaking. Every time this happens it gives us reason to sharpen our conflict measures.”

Union officials are reviewing the power source, emphasizing legal concerns over unauthorized electricity trading that aids Tesla in evading blockades.

Tesla has launched its first Megacharger station available to Semi fleet customers at a site in Ontario, California. The station, located in a key freight corridor, supports the company's expanding network for electric trucks. This marks a shift toward broader commercial use of the infrastructure.

In a video interview with Giga Berlin plant manager André Thierig, Tesla CEO Elon Musk detailed expansions including battery production, Cybercab robotaxis, Semi trucks, and Optimus robots—but warned plans depend on the factory avoiding IG Metall influence in upcoming works council elections, amid production drops and slumping European sales. He assured the site would not close.

The non-union Giga United group secured 24 of 37 seats with 40.4% of votes in the works council election at Tesla's Gigafactory Grünheide near Berlin, concluding March 4, 2026. IG Metall's list took 13 seats at 31.1%—down from 39.4% in 2024—amid mutual accusations of intimidation, legal disputes, and Elon Musk's anti-union stance.

Tesla has published a detailed blog post introducing Supercharger for Business, a program offering its charging expertise to commercial sites. The post highlights the network's scale and performance in 2025. It positions the service as a full solution with hardware, software, and support.
