Nairobi official warns absentee staff after new role

Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi's new Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, issued a stern warning to absentee workers during his first assignment in the role. He made the remarks after a surprise visit to a city health facility on November 25, 2025. Mosiria, recently transferred from the Environment docket, vowed to maintain his hands-on approach to service delivery.

Geoffrey Mosiria spoke out for the first time since his transfer from the Environment department in a recent reshuffle. On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, he conducted a surprise inspection at a local health facility in Nairobi, his initial task in the Citizen Engagement and Customer Service position.

During the visit, Mosiria discovered instances of staff absenteeism, particularly among nurses and other medical personnel. He immediately instructed supervisors to report the absent workers to the Director of Medical Services for disciplinary measures. "Today I visited some of our health centres, and I have checked every service delivery point because our goal is to ensure all services reach the citizens," Mosiria stated. He added, "What I observed was that some staff were absent. I instructed the nursing service manager in charge of the facility to report to the Director of Medical Services."

Addressing his new responsibilities, Mosiria emphasized his commitment to transparency and efficiency. The Department of Citizen Engagement and Customer Service acts as a link between Nairobi residents and the county government. "I want to assure you that the government will deliver services to the people. I will not only look at the customers but also at the people designated to deliver the services. Those who are always late or abscond from duty, your days are numbered," he declared.

Mosiria's approach echoes his previous roles. Since 2022, he has held three positions: starting in Health Facilities, then Environment, where he gained recognition for real-time documentation of inspections on issues like illegal dumping and noise pollution. His public, proactive style has built a strong reputation among Nairobi residents.
