id Software denies major staff cuts after Xbox layoffs

id Software has pushed back against reports that recent Xbox layoffs have severely reduced its workforce. Co-studio director Hugo Martin addressed the concerns during a recent livestream.

Martin stated on a Bethesda-hosted Doom livestream that claims the studio has been "nerfed into the ground and gutted" with only 50 people remaining are not accurate. He said the team is now the same size it was when developing Doom 2016 and that id Tech remains active with engineers collaborating across locations including Frankfurt and MachineGames.

The studio's social account also confirmed it still has the necessary staff to create games. Martin expressed interest in continuing the Doom origin story from Doom: The Dark Ages through to the sarcophagus scene in Doom 2016.

The comments follow Microsoft's broader Xbox restructuring, which has already cut 1,600 jobs with another 1,600 planned by next summer. The Revelations expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages launched last week.
