Ecco the Dolphin collection announced with remasters and new game

Developer A&R Atelier and publisher Sega have announced Ecco the Dolphin: Complete, a collection featuring remastered versions of the original two games and a brand-new entry. The project reunites members of the original development team after more than 30 years, including creator Ed Annunziata. It excludes the 2000 Dreamcast title Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future.

A&R Atelier, led by Ecco the Dolphin creator Ed Annunziata, revealed Ecco the Dolphin: Complete via a press release. The anthology includes all versions of Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, enhanced with built-in speedrunning support, achievements, and leaderboards. It also teases meta quests that let players create custom courses combining levels from any game in the franchise and share them with the community. A brand-new game rounds out the package, potentially to be revealed soon via a countdown timer on the official website. No platforms, screenshots, or videos have been shared yet, and details on the new title—whether 2D or otherwise—remain under wraps. The press release states: “Ecco the Dolphin: Complete is built by original members of the Ecco development team, reunited after more than 30 years, and includes original creator Ed Annunziata along with members of the original composition, art, and programming teams. No one else can make this game.” This marks the first new Ecco game since Defender of the Future in 2000, which is not included in the collection, possibly due to Annunziata's lack of involvement in that 3D reboot. Sega is publishing the labour-of-love collaboration.
