George Russell converted pole position into victory at the Austrian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver finished ahead of Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli at the Red Bull Ring.
Russell secured his first Grand Prix win since the season-opening race in Australia. He managed his tyres effectively throughout the event and crossed the line ahead of Verstappen by just over 1.6 seconds.
Toto Wolff described Russell's performance as cold-blooded. The Mercedes team principal noted the driver's strong execution from qualifying through the race finish.
A mid-race battle between Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen drew attention. Former driver Juan Pablo Montoya said Hamilton's defensive moves showed he has not forgotten past incidents with the Red Bull driver.
Antonelli finished third and continues to lead the drivers' championship. He holds a 40-point advantage over Russell after the Austrian Grand Prix.
