Hong Kong man cleared of murder but guilty of manslaughter

A High Court jury on Friday acquitted Ng Ka-sing of murder but unanimously convicted the 29-year-old of manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend Yip Tsz-ching four years ago.

The jury accepted the defence claim that Ng may have accidentally beaten Yip to death during an intensive overnight diet session at their 700 sq ft flat in Galore Garden, Hung Shui Kiu.

Mrs Justice Judianna Barnes said the verdict indicated the jury believed Ng’s contention might be true. She noted the risk of reoffending was “extremely low” but required more information on his character before sentencing.

Mitigation submissions are scheduled for Monday. The incident occurred four years ago.
