أدى البرنامج، الذي أطلقه رئيس الوزراء أبي أحمد في عام 2011، إلى زيادة الغطاء الغابي من 11.2 في المئة إلى 23.6 في المئة. وتهدف خطة هذا العام إلى غرس 9.2 مليار شتلة، يخصص 40 في المئة منها لتنمية الغابات، بينما يخصص الباقي لأغراض غذائية واقتصادية. وقد وفرت المبادرة فرص عمل لأكثر من مليون مواطن. كما تسعى إثيوبيا إلى الوصول إلى 400 ألف سيارة كهربائية بحلول عام 2030.
