The Senate Economy Commission discussed a bill to regulate online betting platforms on Tuesday, following an SII resolution on tax collection.
Acting superintendent of gaming casinos Eduardo Cáceres told the commission about 123 complaints filed since 2018 against 262 platforms. The Superintendency supports advancing regulation to protect public faith, increase tax revenue and combat money laundering.
Finance minister Jorge Quiroz did not attend due to scheduling issues, but proposed to senator Gastón Saavedra, commission president, forming a technical table with Senate and ministry advisors. The goal is to agree on amendments to the bill before setting a new deadline for its presentation.
The commission decided to request information from the National Television Council and the National Sports Institute regarding sponsorships of illegal online casinos to television programs and sports clubs. Senators such as Matías Walker highlighted the need to identify final beneficiaries of these activities.
