وجهت السلطات في ولاية إلينوي اتهامات لامرأة بإخفاء وفاة جارتها المسنة لأكثر من ثلاث سنوات، وذلك بعد أن عثرت على جثتها واستمرت في الوصول إلى حسابات الضحية المالية.

وجهت تهمة إخفاء جثة إلى جينا إنجليش-ويت، البالغة من العمر 59 عاماً، وجرى اعتقالها في 22 فبراير بعد أن اكتشفت الشرطة رفات ليلي برينديل، البالغة من العمر 86 عاماً، محنطة داخل منزلها في سبرينغفيلد. وأجرى الضباط فحصاً للاطمئنان على الحالة في 6 نوفمبر 2025، عقب مخاوف أعربت عنها عائلة برينديل، ليعثروا على الجثة على كرسي في غرفة المعيشة مغطاة بالبطانيات. وخلص المحققون إلى أن برينديل توفيت في أغسطس 2022 تقريباً، استناداً إلى أدلة لم تتغير داخل المنزل مثل الأطعمة منتهية الصلاحية وتقويم يعود لذلك العام.
