Microsoft highlights Xbox AI tools for creators at GDC 2026

Building on the recent Gaming Copilot launch for PC, Microsoft showcased Xbox AI features at GDC 2026, prioritizing game developers amid industry concerns. Highlights include Auto Super Resolution, AI-generated clips, and Copilot's console rollout, with plans to license creator content.

At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2026, Microsoft expanded on its Gaming AI efforts—following the recent PC rollout of Gaming Copilot—detailing platform-wide tools to support developers and creators. Haiyan Zhang, gaming AI general manager, and Sonali Yadav, gaming AI project manager, presented three key features.

Auto Super Resolution, live on Windows 11, enhances graphics and framerates akin to DLSS and launches on ROG Xbox Ally handhelds in April. AI-clipped highlight reels, capturing moments like boss kills, rolled out to Xbox Insiders on ROG Xbox Ally this month.

Gaming Copilot, the AI assistant now on PC and mobile, uses large language models for in-game help. Demos included Forza Horizon car setup, Sea of Thieves starts, and Diablo 4 quests. Usage data shows 30% for game help, 25% for Game Pass discovery, and 19% casual chat; Xbox Series X/S support arrives later in 2026.

Microsoft emphasized developer control: “Creative control should always stay with the game creators,” said Zhang, aiming to boost engagement. On data, Copilot pulls from online sources; Yadav noted exploration of creator licensing deals, positioning AI to 'amplify' rather than replace creators.
