Vyn named Sweden's restaurant of the year for second year running

At the Falstaff gala in Malmö on Monday evening, Skånska Vyn in Brantevik was named Sweden's restaurant of the year for the second year in a row. The restaurant shares first place among Sweden's best with Aira and Ekstedts in Stockholm. A Malmö restaurant, Ruths, won the casual restaurant of the year category.

The Falstaff gala took place at Slagthuset in Malmö on Monday evening, marking a success for Skåne's restaurants. The event, organized for the third year in a row by the German restaurant guide Falstaff, awarded prizes to the Nordics' best eateries. The guide expanded from 600 to 1,900 restaurants this year, with more voters from the public and experts, according to editor-in-chief Tove Henckel. Vyn server Ella Widström was named rising star in service. 'I am very happy and proud. I come from a workplace where kindness is one of the core values, and I am a good example that you get better at your job then,' she said. Owner Daniel Berlin received the award for Sweden's restaurant of the year with 16 staff members. 'We did not expect this, or at least I didn't. But I think we deserve it,' he commented. Vyn scored full marks, 100 out of 100 points, alongside eight other Nordic restaurants including Alchemist, Geranium, and Frantzén. Ruths in Malmö was named casual restaurant of the year. Mathias Dahlgren won chef of the year for Seafood Gastro and Matbaren in Stockholm, and Ateljé Vita Duken in Umeå was new restaurant of the year. 'I'm not a guy who likes stages. I'm a bit shy, but very happy. I've worked as a chef for 40 years and will continue as long as it's fun,' Dahlgren said. Rasmus Munk from Alchemist in Copenhagen won Danish awards and joked about visiting Malmö more often. Swedish winners include sommelier of the year Emelie Zung-Hee Svensson at Agnes, service of the year Ekstedt, and sustainable restaurant of the year Jord in Linköping.
