President William Ruto has highlighted the affordable housing programme after signing the 2026 Finance Bill.
President William Ruto’s government is expected to have spent around Sh220 billion on the affordable housing programme by the end of his first term next year. More than 274,000 houses are under construction and the programme has created over 640,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The housing sector budget has risen from Sh64.2 billion in the final three years of Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration to more than Sh102 billion in the first three years of Ruto’s term. It is projected to reach Sh138 billion in the financial year beginning July 1.
Ruto said the programme remains a key pillar of economic transformation. This marks a contrast with former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy, which centred on major investments in roads, rail and energy.
