Yusril calls Pesta Babi film title provocative

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Penitentiary Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra has deemed the title of the documentary film Pesta Babi: Kolonialisme di Zaman Kita provocative. He confirmed that the government has not banned screenings of the film.

Yusril explained that the film contains criticism of the National Strategic Project in South Papua. The critique highlights impacts on natural preservation, Papuan customary rights, and the living environment. He views such criticism as reasonable even though the title is controversial.

The government has not issued any directive to ban watch-together events at universities. Some campuses in Lombok stopped screenings due to administrative procedures alone. Meanwhile, activities at campuses in Bandung and Sukabumi proceeded without hindrance.

Yusril urged the public not to be provoked by a title deliberately crafted to attract attention. He encouraged viewers to hold discussions and debates after watching. The government can also draw lessons from the criticism to improve field measures.
