39.4 percent of South Koreans owned land in 2025

Government data showed that 39.4 percent of South Korea's registered population owned land at the end of 2025. The number of owners rose while total land area declined.

Data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport showed 20.12 million people owned land as of the end of 2025. This marked an increase of 470,000 people, or 2.4 percent, from the prior year.

The total area owned fell to 46,127 square kilometers, down 0.3 percent year on year. People in their 60s held the highest share at 30 percent, followed by those in their 70s at 22 percent and those in their 50s at 20.5 percent.

Men accounted for 54.3 percent of landowners and women 45.7 percent. Women's ownership share has risen steadily since 2022. Land area held by corporations rose 0.8 percent while that held by non-corporate entities such as religious groups stayed unchanged.
