AFP debunks claims of military division

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has warned against disinformation on social media claiming internal divisions and political realignments within the military. The AFP dismissed reports of withdrawing support from President Marcos and shifting allegiance to Vice President Sara Duterte as fake news. The military reaffirmed its unity and non-partisan stance.

In a statement, the Armed Forces of the Philippines urged the public to be cautious of information circulating online. The military described such stories as fabricated and intentional disinformation aimed at creating discord among troops and Filipinos. “These narratives are fake news and deliberate disinformation designed to sow confusion, mistrust, and division – both within the ranks and among the Filipino people,” the AFP said.

The armed forces emphasized that it remains cohesive, professional, and apolitical. “Let us be clear… Our loyalty is to the Constitution and the Filipino people – not to any political figure or agenda,” they added. The AFP also called on the public to verify details from reliable sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed content, as it only breeds division and instability.

This episode highlights the ongoing challenge of disinformation amid political tensions in the country, especially concerning high-level positions. The AFP provided no further details on the origins of the false reports, but maintaining discipline and fidelity to their mandate remains their priority.
