Alina Fernández declines to weigh in on rumor linking Justin Trudeau to Fidel Castro

Alina Fernández, the exiled daughter of Fidel Castro, said she would not pursue or amplify a long-running conspiracy theory that former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau is her half-brother, after being asked about it on NewsNation’s “Katie Pavlich Tonight.”

Alina Fernández, who has long lived in exile from Cuba, was asked on NewsNation’s “Katie Pavlich Tonight” about the persistent rumor that former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau could be her half-brother.

Fernández did not endorse the claim, but said the only thing she was willing to add was that Trudeau’s mother “used to visit the country very often.”

Pressed on whether she planned to contact Trudeau to find out, Fernández declined.

“No, no. If he wants he’s welcome but I won’t, I won’t. I think he keeps that to himself and you have to respect that,” she said.

The speculation has circulated online for years, alleging—without evidence—that Fidel Castro was Trudeau’s biological father rather than Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Mediaite, which also reported on the exchange, noted that records show Pierre and Margaret Trudeau’s first official trip to Cuba was in 1976—several years after Justin Trudeau was born in 1971—an apparent timeline mismatch that undercuts the theory.
