Google's Gemini AI suggests meeting times in Calendar

Google is introducing a new Gemini AI feature in Google Calendar to simplify scheduling by suggesting optimal meeting times based on participants' availability. The tool also allows easy rescheduling if conflicts arise. It is rolling out to eligible paid Workspace users.

Google has launched a Gemini AI-powered update for Google Calendar aimed at streamlining meeting coordination. When creating an event, users can select the 'Suggested times' option, and Gemini analyzes participants' calendars, working hours, and existing commitments to propose available slots. This reduces the manual effort typically involved in finding mutually convenient times.

If invitees decline or new conflicts emerge after the initial scheduling, the organizer receives a prompt within the event details. Gemini then recommends an alternative time slot, enabling a quick reschedule without navigating away from the Calendar interface. This builds on existing AI capabilities in Calendar, such as smart event creation and time insights, as part of Google's effort to integrate generative AI more deeply into its Workspace suite for tasks like drafting and summarizing.

Access to the feature requires a paid Google Workspace plan, specifically Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, or the Google AI Pro for Education add-on. It also necessitates permission to view attendees' calendars for accurate suggestions. The rollout began immediately for Rapid Release domains, with Scheduled Release domains gaining access starting February 2. Broader availability for eligible users is expected in the coming weeks.

This update addresses a common pain point in professional communication, potentially saving time for teams reliant on Google tools.
