Holstein Kiel continues to fight for survival in Germany's second-division Bundesliga. On Saturday evening, before 13,812 spectators in Kiel, coach Tim Walter's team lost 2-3 (2-2) to 1. FC Nürnberg. The visitors from Franconia took an early lead: Julian Justvan scored in the 14th minute for 1-0, assisted by Mohammed Zoma, and netted the 2-0 in the 22nd minute with a low shot from Rafael Lubach's pass.
Holstein Kiel had previously missed a clear chance through Adrian Kapralik in the 12th minute. The deficit spurred the KSV side: Kapralik reduced the score to 1-2 in the 29th minute after Alexander Bernhardsson's layoff. Just before halftime, in the 45.+9th minute, Kasper Davidsen headed in the 2-2 equalizer, assisted by Bernhardsson; the goal was checked for offside and confirmed.
In the second half, the Storks dominated but squandered chances, such as long-range shots from Davidsen (57th) and Bernhardsson (65th). In the 71st minute, Walter substituted Bernhardsson with Phil Harres. However, in the 73rd minute, Zoma scored the 3-2 winner for Nürnberg, set up by substitute Finn Ole Becker. Despite late pressure, Holstein remained winless.
Walter stated: "It lacked the basics in the opponent's and our own box. We can be more goal-oriented and uncompromising there." Steven Skrzybski summed up: "I believe if we take the chances, we win this thing." After the match, he added: "In the end, we need wins to move forward. The way we play is good. But we have to be more uncompromising up front."
The pressure mounts: Greuther Fürth won 2-0 against SV Elversberg, 1. FC Magdeburg drew 1-1 at SV Darmstadt. Eintracht Braunschweig beat Fortuna Düsseldorf 1-0, Arminia Bielefeld drew 2-2 at SC Paderborn. Holstein Kiel stays in the direct relegation spot with eight games remaining.
