Hong Kong to host Hyrox World Championships Asian debut

Hong Kong will host the Hyrox World Championships at AsiaWorld-Expo in June next year, the event's first Asian edition. The announcement came on Thursday in Sweden. Experts say it could draw high-spending athletes to the city.

Timothy Chui Ting-pong, executive director of the Hong Kong Tourism Association, said Hyrox events resemble marathons by drawing dedicated participants who travel across countries.

He noted that world championships have been held in the United States and Europe since the COVID-19 pandemic. Hosting in Hong Kong means many athletes will fly farther, suggesting larger travel budgets and longer stays.

An estimated 1.5 million athletes are expected to compete in 95 cities during the 2025–26 season, with officials predicting growth to more than 2 million next year. Only about 10,000 top athletes will be invited to Hong Kong.
