Judge rejects Blake Lively bid for Justin Baldoni payout

A federal judge shut down Blake Lively's push for extra cash from Justin Baldoni just one day after the It Ends With Us drama wrapped another chapter. The ruling lands as Ryan Reynolds ducked into a World Cup match for some breathing room.

On Friday, Judge Lewis Liman ruled that Lively cannot collect treble or punitive damages under California Civil Code Section 47.1. He called the attempt an "end run" around federal rules and said compensatory and punitive damages fall outside the narrow exception.

Lively did score one win. The judge agreed she can seek legal fees and found no evidence of malice, meaning she believed her allegations when she made them. How much Wayfarer Studios will actually pay remains undecided.

The decision follows an out-of-court settlement reached days before trial. Earlier this year both sides released a joint statement calling the film a "source of pride."
