Fletcher verstarb am Freitag. Er erwarb sich den Ruf als einer der besten General Manager der Liga während einer Karriere, die Stationen bei den Atlanta Flames, Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, Arizona Coyotes und Toronto Maple Leafs umfasste. Er verlegte das Franchise von Atlanta nach Calgary und stellte den Kader zusammen, der 1989 den Stanley Cup gewann. Fletcher holte 1994 auch Sundin nach Toronto und stellte später Anders Hedberg als Assistant General Manager ein.
