Sibanye-Stillwater hat durch die Konsolidierung zusammenhängender Platinmetall-Minen in der Nähe von Rustenburg jährliche Kosteneinsparungen von 3 Milliarden Rand bei seinen Betrieben in Marikana erzielt.

Die Einsparungen wurden während einer Präsentation am Capital Markets Day in dieser Woche hervorgehoben. Sie sind Teil einer umfassenderen Strategie, die mit den Übernahmen im Jahr 2015 begann.

Sibanye übernahm Lonmin im Jahr 2019 und erlangte 2023 die vollständige Kontrolle über die Kroondal Platinum Mines. Diese Schritte schufen 70 Kilometer an zusammenhängenden Betrieben entlang des westlichen Arms des Platingürtels.

Seit 2016 haben die Übernahmen im Bereich Platinmetalle 15,4 Millionen Unzen gefördert und einen Ertragswert von 161 Milliarden Rand generiert. CEO Richard Stewart betonte, dass eine einheitliche Eigentümerstruktur komplexe Grenzvereinbarungen zwischen verschiedenen Unternehmen überflüssig mache.

Lohnvereinbarungen haben ebenfalls zur Stabilität beigetragen. Bergleute im Einstiegsbereich in Marikana erhalten ab dem 1. Juli dieses Jahres 20.813 Rand pro Monat, was einem Anstieg von 64 Prozent seit 2019 entspricht.
