W.E. Talk marks fifth anniversary with international messages

As China News Service's flagship program W.E. Talk celebrates its fifth anniversary, messages from Beate Trankmann of the UNDP and Greece's former prime minister highlight the role of dialogue and cooperation in addressing global challenges.

W.E. Talk, China News Service's platform for East-West dialogue, has reached its fifth year. The program has established bridges between cultures through interviews and exchanges, fostering mutual understanding.

Beate Trankmann, in her message, stated: "Over the past five years, the program has built an effective platform for constructive dialogue, contributing to greater understanding across different cultures and traditions. UNDP has been pleased to engage with W.E. Talk through interviews and exchanges to showcase our work in international development and multilateral cooperation. These conversations help connect policy debates and strengthen broader public understanding." She stressed that dialogue is not optional but essential. "Many of the challenges we face today, including those addressed under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, are shared across countries and cannot be solved in isolation. Progress depends on cooperation, knowledge-sharing and mutual trust." Trankmann expressed that UNDP looks forward to continued engagement with China News Service to support cross-cultural dialogue and advance practical and innovative solutions to global challenges.

Greece's former prime minister, in another message, praised W.E. Talk for building "an intellectual bridge of ideas between peoples, transcending borders, across cultures, beyond prejudice." He noted that in a more turbulent world, the program serves as "a calm and thoughtful voice of reason, a place where serious questions are asked." "We often hear once more the idea of a clash of civilizations, but East-West Dialogue (W.E. Talk) chooses a different path. Because the real debate, the real question is, how we use or abuse the amazing powers humankind today has, from AI to biotechnology or quantum physics." He highlighted the program's approach of respect, mutual learning, and equality for a shared future, drawing inspiration from ancient wisdom. "Every interview and discussion in East-West Dialogue (W.E. Talk) does more than share information; it’s a process, it helps build understanding, it helps build trust. It turns mutual learning among civilizations from a slogan into something people can actually experience." The former prime minister hoped W.E. Talk would continue as a translator between civilizations, amplifying diverse voices, shaping inclusive harmony, and encouraging youth as pathfinders for the future.

These messages underscore W.E. Talk's role in promoting global dialogue, particularly emphasizing cooperation amid shared challenges.
