YouTuber CryZENx has ended a ten-year project to remake The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine. The decision follows Nintendo's announcement of an official remake for the title. The creator cited a desire to avoid legal issues and to focus on new work.
CryZENx announced the end of the project in a Patreon post, stating that the Ocarina of Time Project is officially stopped. The developer plans to poll backers on future recreation projects and will pursue multiple efforts at once.
Earlier comments from the creator expressed support for Nintendo's version, noting a wish not to interfere. A reply to a commenter mentioned concerns about potential action from Nintendo.
The project had included a PC demo and extensive YouTube footage. CryZENx had avoided legal shutdown until now but viewed continuation as risky with an official release approaching.
Future fan projects under consideration include remakes of Twilight Princess, Minish Cap, Diddy Kong Racing, Metroid Prime Hunters, and titles from the Turok and MDK series.
