The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has temporarily closed a section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass bound for Ole Sereni after a road accident this morning. The crash killed one person and seriously injured another. Motorists face heavy traffic delays and have been advised to use alternative routes.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has notified motorists of the temporary closure of the Nairobi Southern Bypass (Ole Sereni-bound) between Thogoto and Dagoretti interchanges near Karinde. The closure follows a road traffic accident that occurred earlier on Friday, April 24.
"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists that the Nairobi Southern Bypass (Ole Sereni-bound), between Thogoto and Dagoretti Interchanges near Karinde, has been temporarily closed following a road traffic accident earlier this morning," the road agency's notice stated.
Reports indicate the incident involved two long-distance trucks along the Gitaru stretch. A broken-down lorry was struck from behind by another truck, with preliminary indications pointing to brake failure as the likely cause.
One person died—a mechanic working on the stalled lorry at the time of impact—while another sustained serious injuries. Images show major traffic snarl-ups on both outbound and incoming sections as emergency teams clear the road.
KeNHA advised using the Kikuyu-Mutuini-Dagoretti (C63 Road) as an alternative and cooperating with traffic marshals. "KeNHA assures all road users that we are working around the clock to restore normal traffic flow and ensure the safety of motorists."
