The Kenyan government has warned motorists of major traffic disruptions expected to begin next week as Nairobi hosts the Africa Forward Summit 2026.
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced on Friday that heavy movements of very important persons will affect several key routes from May 10 to May 12. The roads expected to experience disruptions include Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road, and Kiambu Road.
Parts of the central business district will close from midnight on May 11. Roads including City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, and Taifa Road will be restricted to conference vehicles accessing the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
The summit, co-hosted by President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron, runs from May 11 to 12. It will draw more than 30 heads of state from across Africa.
Separately, the Kenya National Highways Authority closed a section of Uhuru Highway overnight on Friday for maintenance works, causing gridlock.
