Alcolumbre says senate will not rush PEC ending 6x1 work scale

Senate president Davi Alcolumbre said on Tuesday that the chamber will not simply rubber-stamp the PEC approved by the lower house and that the bill will go through committees.

Alcolumbre (União-AP) told the plenary that the Senate needs to debate the proposal calmly. He noted that the Chamber took five months to review the text and that the upper house should have reasonable time to hear workers and employers.

The matter will be discussed at the leaders’ meeting next Tuesday. Alcolumbre said the PEC will go through at least the Constitution and Justice Committee and, if needed, a special committee.

Government-allied senators complained about the slower pace compared with an opposition alternative PEC dispatched in under 24 hours. CCJ chair Otto Alencar said he will prioritize the Chamber’s proposal.

Alcolumbre responded to social media criticism. “Do not force me, do not threaten me, do not offend me, do not attack me,” he said.
