La defensa sostiene que el caso Phala Phala se basa en pruebas circunstanciales

Los abogados de los tres acusados por el robo en la granja del presidente Cyril Ramaphosa afirman que la fiscalía no ha presentado pruebas directas tras 13 meses de juicio.

La defensa cerró su caso en el Tribunal de Magistrados de Modimolle el domingo, manteniendo que las pruebas del Estado consisten únicamente en registros telefónicos, transacciones financieras y testimonios de testigos.

Koena Matlala, representante del acusado Imanuwela David, declaró ante el tribunal que la fiscalía no ha situado a ninguno de los tres acusados dentro de la granja de Limpopo ni los ha vinculado directamente con los dólares robados.

Dos testigos de transporte modificaron sus declaraciones ante el tribunal, lo que llevó al Estado a solicitar la declaración de testigos hostiles, mientras que la Autoridad Nacional de Fiscalía sostuvo que el conjunto de las pruebas demuestra la coordinación entre los acusados antes y después del robo de febrero de 2020.

La fiscalía deberá presentar sus argumentos por escrito antes del 3 de julio, y las audiencias orales están programadas para agosto.
