Father of eleven awaits dinner celebration on father's day

Gunnar Zeeck, 53, from Västerås, is father to eleven children but has not yet been celebrated on Father's Day. Instead, he has changed tires on cars and is supporting a daughter at a floorball match. The celebration is expected to be a dinner tonight with nine of the children.

On Father's Day, November 9, 2025, Gunnar Zeeck in Västerås has had a busy morning. The 53-year-old father of eleven has not received any presents or breakfast in bed. Instead, he got up early to change tires on both his own car and his father's. "But I haven't been celebrated at all yet," says Gunnar Zeeck.

His children are 25, 24, 22, 22, 20, 20, 16, 13, 12, 8, and 6 years old, divided into two age groups. Five of them still live at home, and the school app on his phone constantly pings with notifications. After the tire change, Gunnar drives to a floorball match where one of his daughters is refereeing. His wife is meanwhile helping another daughter who has just moved out.

The celebration is postponed to the evening with a dinner for nine of the children, plus Gunnar's own father and the biological father of his four stepchildren. "I make no difference between stepchildren and biological children. It's not the biological that matters," he emphasizes. The dinner is a surprise, but he expects cards and presents as usual. "The best is the surprise," says Gunnar. He particularly appreciates drawings and cards from the children and has saved many such items from previous Father's Days.

Regarding Father's Day as a tradition, Gunnar is moderately enthusiastic. "So-so. It has always existed, it's not a new tradition. It's fun and nice, I suppose," he replies. With eleven children, everyday life is intense, but he has gotten used to the pace. "You get into it, then you just keep going."
