Ethiopia has introduced the Mirtaye mobile application to facilitate voter registration. The app allows users to submit information via Facebook and obtain a voter ID card. It supports preparations for the 7th general election.
According to Fana Media Corporation, the Mirtaye application is downloaded from the Play Store or App Store and opened on a mobile phone. Users select a language, log in via Facebook using a 16-digit FAN code and a 6-digit OTP, and submit personal information. They receive an official voter ID number and select a polling station based on their address. Registration involves entering year, month, and day of birth, confirming details, and uploading a photo and signature. A voter card is available in the app 48 hours before election day.
The voter registration card includes the voter's name, address details (region, zone, woreda, kebele, polling station, house number), registration numbers, age, fingerprint or signature, and registration date. Each voter receives only one card. On voting day, voters must bring the card to the polling station. If the card is lost or damaged, a replacement can be obtained upon verification, during public list displays, or on election day at the polling station. A duplicate card may be issued with a note indicating it is a copy, or voters can present the damaged card for voting. This process supports the 7th general election preparations.
