The family of Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir is mourning the death of his father, Mzee Edwin Koech. Leaders including Education CS Julius Bitok and Interior CS Raymond Omollo have offered condolences, describing him as a strong family pillar. His body has been moved to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
News of Mzee Edwin Koech's death, father of Transport CS Davis Chirchir, was confirmed on Tuesday, April 21. The family has not yet released details on the cause of death or burial arrangements.
Education CS Julius Bitok stated, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to CS for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir, and his family following the passing of his father, Mzee Edwin Koech.” He added, “Mzee Koech stood as a strong and dependable pillar, whose guidance and wisdom shaped many beyond his immediate family.
Senate Majority Leader Aron Cheruiyot described the late Koech as a deeply influential figure who mentored many. Former CS Charles Keter said, "Arap Koech gave generously of his time, resources, and counsel to uplift those around him. The lives he touched and the developments he championed in his community stand as a lasting tribute to a man who believed in the power of giving back."
Mzee Koech was known as a staunch Christian with deep family values who contributed to uplifting his community through education and building social amenities such as schools. This comes nearly a week after the death of Seme MP's father, Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, on April 12.
