Bulog tightens gabah absorption standards under new decree

Perum Bulog has tightened standards to absorb only harvest-ready gabah under Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2026. Oversight begins at the harvest stage in production centers. The measure aims to maintain government rice quality.

In Karawang, West Java, Bulog CEO Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani stated that absorbed gabah must have reached harvest age. He spoke on Thursday (23/4/2026) amid implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2026 on domestic gabah and rice procurement and management through 2029.

"Inpres Number 4 of 2026 emphasizes that harvested gabah must be ready for harvest, meaning it has entered harvest age," Rizal said.

Bulog involves field agricultural extension officers (PPL) and Babinsa to monitor harvests and prevent premature cutting. "That's why we involve PPL and Babinsa in the field to ensure harvested gabah is not still green or not yet at harvest time," he said. This has improved rice quality in Bulog warehouses.

"Now the condition looks good. The results are also good," Rizal added. Meanwhile, Bulog warehouses are full due to rising national rice production. The government plans 100 new warehouses using National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) technology to extend rice shelf life to two years, said Food Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan.
