Chennai Metro Rail's phase II project has hit a snag in tunnelling work between Thiruvanmiyur and Taramani due to a technical issue with the tunnel boring machine (TBM), delaying progress until June, as reported by The Hindu.

The 118.9-km phase II network comprises three corridors: corridor 3 from Madhavaram to SIPCOT, corridor 4 from Poonamallee to Light House, and corridor 5 from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. The delayed section falls under corridor 5.

Construction of both elevated and underground structures has been ongoing for a couple of years. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) aims to enhance the city's transport infrastructure through this expansion.
