Mahashivratri 2026 features the tradition of offering hemp seed laddus to Lord Shiva. These laddus are nutritious and provide energy to the body. Learn the recipe and health benefits.
The festival of Mahashivratri will be observed on February 16, 2026, with devotees worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On this occasion, hemp seed laddus are specially prepared, which are not only delicious but also highly beneficial for health. Hemp seeds are rich in protein, fiber, omega fatty acids, calcium, and magnesium. These laddus provide energy and warmth in winter, aid digestion, enhance skin and hair glow, and strengthen bones.
Hemp is often associated with intoxication, but it holds great nutritional value and is a favorite of Lord Shiva. They are distributed as prasad during fasting.
Ingredients for the laddus: Hemp seeds, desi ghee, cashews, almond flour, powdered jaggery, and cardamom.
Preparation steps:
1. Lightly roast the hemp seeds on low to medium flame for 7-10 minutes until they turn light in color. Let them cool completely.
2. Fry cashews in ghee until golden and crispy.
3. Coarsely grind the cooled seeds with cardamom, avoiding a fine powder.
4. In a bowl, mix the seed powder, almond flour, jaggery, and fried cashews.
5. If the mixture feels dry, add a bit of warm ghee and shape into round laddus.
These laddus prove particularly useful during fasting in cold regions, where they offer strength to the body.
