Housemarque plans to keep making tough games like Saros

Housemarque studio head Ilari Kuittinen said the developer intends to stick with challenging gameplay in future titles, drawing inspiration from FromSoftware.

In an interview, Kuittinen highlighted the studio's focus on what it calls the "bullet ballet" subgenre seen in Saros and Returnal. He noted that FromSoftware built its audience over time with similar demanding games and expressed hope that Housemarque can do the same by educating players about flow states.

Kuittinen said the studio will keep its core approach while refining the formula. Brand director Mikael Haveri added that Returnal gained traction gradually through word of mouth, and the team expects a similar pattern with Saros.

Saros launched in April on PlayStation 5. The studio added a photo mode and new trophies last week and plans to release further updates based on community feedback.
