Protest called against Perfect Day project in Mahahual

Environmental groups have called for a peaceful protest outside the Environment Ministry in Mexico City to defend Mahahual from Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day project. The demonstration is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, at 9 a.m.

The call was issued by the group Sélvame. Participants plan to gather at Ejército Nacional 223, colonia Anáhuac, to urge authorities to halt construction of the theme park.

President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that Semarnat is investigating the project. She said she asked Secretary Alicia Bárcena to review the plans in detail to prevent any damage to the ecosystem.

Sheinbaum stated that her government prioritizes environmental protection over private economic interests. Greenpeace has also voiced opposition through a signature campaign and a banner at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
