Avianca suspends flights to and from Venezuela amid US tensions

Avianca has announced the suspension of flights to and from Venezuela following recommendations from that country's National Institute of Civil Aeronautics amid tensions between the US and Venezuelan governments. The airline prioritizes passenger and staff safety. Affected travelers have refund or alternative flight options.

Colombian airline Avianca announced, via a statement, the suspension of its flight operations to and from Venezuela. This decision follows recommendations from Venezuela's National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (Inac), amid escalating tensions between the US and Venezuelan governments.

"For the airline, the priority is and will always be the safety of passengers and collaborators," the document stated. Avianca, which has maintained a presence in Venezuela for over 105 years as an ally to Venezuelans and facilitator of regional connectivity, expressed confidence that the situation will evolve favorably. The company reiterates its intention to resume operations as soon as conditions allow.

To mitigate the impact on passengers, Avianca offers three main solutions. Customers with direct Bogotá-Caracas-Bogotá flights, without connections, will receive a proactive refund. Those with connections on the same ticket can obtain a refund for the segment to or from Venezuela, or for the full ticket. Additionally, there is an option to fly to or from Cúcuta with special conditions.

Changes can be made through channels such as the mobile app, website, travel agencies, or airports. This measure reflects Avianca's historical commitment to the region, though temporarily interrupted by external factors.
