Cebu faces localized thunderstorms and 41°C heat index

Partly cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms are forecast for Cebu this weekend. The heat index could reach 41 degrees Celsius, placing it in the extreme caution range. A low pressure area is also being monitored east of the country.

The state weather bureau issued the forecast on Saturday, May 16. Conditions are driven by localized thunderstorms from intense daytime heating. Similar patterns are expected across the Visayas and parts of Palawan.

Daytime temperatures are projected between 27 and 33 degrees Celsius. The heat index, however, may hit 41 degrees Celsius. Officials warn this level can cause heat cramps or exhaustion during prolonged activity.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor exertion during peak hours. A low pressure area, previously tropical cyclone Caloy, sits 980 kilometers east of Central Luzon. It poses no direct threat to land areas and is unlikely to intensify.
