Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of the upcoming vampire role-playing game The Blood of Dawnwalker, said a delay to the next generation of consoles would benefit studios like his. His comments follow reports of rising console prices driven by component shortages.
Tomaszkiewicz, who previously directed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, explained that current consoles allow his team at Rebel Wolves to manage fewer builds and avoid the extra work of supporting new hardware.
The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on 3 September and targets Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The studio creates four versions of the game to meet regional rating rules.
Tomaszkiewicz noted that next-generation machines would require two additional builds and new testing processes. He added that stronger hardware mainly benefits visuals and features such as advanced animations for future titles.
The remarks come amid industry concerns over component costs linked to artificial intelligence infrastructure and speculation that a PlayStation 6 could cost up to 1000 dollars to produce.
